Dawkins Does Religion

Recognizing that this is an aged (last december?) performance, I just recently came upon this and had a chance to watch it last night.

It is a splendid account of conversation - part 1 is him reading from his excellent and poignant The God Delusion; part 2 is a Q&A period. Just as some background, he was invited to give a talk about his literary work and to discuss his ideas on religion, atheism and anything he saw fit to wrap into the period. He then opened the stage up to questions - the thing is that he was giving the lecture at a real university (non-denominational) but there was a Christian School (loosely called a university - more like a bible study consortium of intellectually diminutive and unaware 'scholars') nearby who populated the question period. Most questions are focused on them trying to catch him, but - in ever so powerful Dawkins style that he maintains under the most pressing moments - he debunks their self-acclaimed questions. He takes the crowd of creationists and mangles their ideas with few lucid thwats of literary prose and posed confidence. It was great to watch, it was a learning experience. The best part is the question about the 6000 year old dinosaur fossil. Note that the crowd was populated also by the real university students - you can hear their chuckles as Dawkins fumbles to keep his laughter at bay and academic fury at ease as he dismembers the questioners ignorance. It is truely wonderful.

I advise part 2 if you only have a short time. Part 1, however, should also not be missed.
